Penang is very famous of its hawker food. Every hawker center or coffee shop you enter, the very common food will be char koay teow, hokkien mee, curry mee, wantan mee and jawa mee. But it's very rare to have the good ones to concentrate in one hawker centre or coffee shop. So, you'll have to travel to a few coffee shop to satisfy your craving for Penang Hawker Food.
There one place where you can find a few good hawker food at night. It's located along Chulia Street. It's a very busy street at night as well as in the morning. In the morning, you can find the famous and tasty beef koay teow at the other end of the street.
You are able to locate quite a number to tourist dining at this area.
The curry mee here do not really need much introduction among Penangnites. I believe many bloggers have blogged about it too.
A small bowl of curry mee which the level of spiciness is average taste good. The amount of coconut juice is just adequate to create the fragrant for curry mee. The absence of some prawns do not affect the taste, but the added prawn as the one in Campbell Street Market does create an added point for the overall price worthiness.
Wantan mee is also worth a try. As lard is used, it added fragrant to the wantan mee. To my liking, there's no lye taste in the noodle. The wantan mee is kinda to the wet type, where there'll still be some gravy left after you finish your plate of wantan mee.
Chee Cheung Fun tasted good too. There are lots of sesame sprinkled on top. the chili is pretty spicy too which just balanced up the sweetness and the saltiness of the prawn paste used.
Char Koay Teow (ckt) - the star of Penang Hawker Food. The ckt has the 'wok hei' fragrant with slightly burnt taste. Overall it taste good.

Ooh yes this is a family favourite haunt, esp for the CKT! The guy opens up late though, after 8PM. Sometimes the wait is just plain unbearable!

The Penang version of CCF is unique, shrimp paste is added. We defintely cannot get this in Ipoh.

I found it weird when I first taste the PG ccf (I am from Perak too). Now I'm getting used to it, but still I prefer Ipoh ccf. yummy...

ate here before last year.. the curry mee is good but have to wait very very long time for it lol. wantan mee is not bad too, i call it the "mother and son wantan mee"

we were there early, so we got to see the carts all pushed out and ready to open for business. so exciting. haha..
The curry mee seller's elder son is selling at 7th road market (chit tiao lor market) in the morning session. The younger brother is selling in the afternoon session. They are both selling at the same place. The elder brother's curry mee tastes nicer. I visit his curry mee stall for my breakfast twice a week. I always ask for extra chilly because it tastes so so good. As for the CKT, i do have to agree it's good..especially with extra chilly. Thumbs up for Penang Food.

Allie, if you can't find th stall then ask any stall for 'Ah Lee Curry Mee'. His name is Ah Lee. His stall is opposite a congee stall.
